Zucker, just be careful. All you have to do is check out my thread on the WTS BUBBLE. Just try and avoid confrontation but your family might be very different than mine. Tell them if you feel you have to (I felt like this) but don't be tempted to lose it!

What are the benifits of DA? Should I DA?

i appreciate that others are entitled to their beliefs and opinions concerning such beliefs, but i am amazed at the number of posters, who, after years of being oppressed and mislead by religion, still manage to garner some sense from the whole notion of god / religion / spirituality.. cheeses the cynic.

I can sympathize I feel the same way. I am damned if I do damned if I don't. Also if I'm not grinning all the time I am pissed at someone <GEESH> My Aunt wasn't a smilier she had my shaped mouth and people always assumed she was uppity. She wasn't she was kind and caring. For me I have a huge heart a generous spirit. When I love I love completly. I will give anyone the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. Dislikes: I can't make friends don't know how, don't have the skill sick of trying. I see people with friends and wonder what skill I'm lacking. I am a PROCRASTINATOR as evidenced by the pile of homeworke at my feet as I type <sigh>

basically ive just told my mum everything about the org and what i think of it covering itself, misleading its followers and the issues of child abuse.
basically my dad said its people who have a vendetta against the society and a lot of the stories are made up.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I needed it. I didn’t initially start of to get in an argument, it just seemed to go in that direction. Honestly, if you knew my dad. I don’t know anyone like him. He really is the most unreasonable guy you will ever meet and now I am talking calmly.
I haven’t been very wise by being goaded by him but sometimes these things happen. I suppose it was a lot of frustration building up over the years because I moved out when I was very young and then lived on my own when I left and it was very hard. I don’t like my dad; you could say I dislike him to put it politely. He just sits around and doesn’t say anything, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife (nothing to do with JW’s –he’s always been like this.) He’s never said a good word to me in his life. When I fell off my ladder when I was working with him when I was a young JW of about 15 (this was a high upstairs window) he just laughed and didn’t even get down off his ladder to see if I was alright (didn’t even ask) he just carried on. I had to go to hospital, when he stopped laughing and viewed me as a pain in the arse for stopping him working.
Anyway, after arguing I went into the kitchen to talk to my mum and we had a decent discussion about it (not heated at all). I’ll just have to make sure he’s not around when I say anything, I think.

well, i got into conversation with her about hindu music and how i really liked it (ravi shankar is awesome!).

Bradley, exactly the same thing happened to me last night.
My mum said the same things to me about how it benefited me etc.
It’s amazing isn’t it how JW’s live in two different worlds mentally and can justify one against the other. Like your example of religion. All the Christendom bashing they did and now it’s happening to them, the same issues. They say the love people but they are told to hate them and be no part of them because they are in Satan’s system. Everything they say contradicts in reality. All the extreme idea’s are exposed at their safe environment –the KH, group study etc but they know how to hide there extreme views in the ‘real world’ so as it sounds acceptable. We really got into a discussion about it and the truth came out in the end. She said she was very offended at how I talked about the brothers and sisters. I said I’m not talking about JW’s, I’m talking about the WTS, the organisation behind it but she’s trained to think they’re all lumped into one, like if you attack any little thing about it you attack everything in it. It’s as if they have a conscious mind working and a subconscious WTS mind just kicking in but not consciously at all because if it did they would realise themselves.
I'm looking for advice on this myself but I know exactley what you mean.

My DF'd brother needs help!
by be wise inmy brother whos dfd turned down a blood transfusion when he had an accident, its a good job he didnt seriously need it, although he did lose a lot of blood.
see the control this society has on people who havent questioned.
he hasnt thought any of it through and is still controlled by a lot of it subconsciously.

Thanks A Paduan for some good advice – they really do burden people down.
Razorblade, my brother has been DF’d 5 or 6 years now but doesn’t really think about it (as far as I know, he probably does privately at times though). Before he was DF’d he was a bit of a wild boy but I know my family’s relentless, so strict attitude, turned him that way cos he thought everything he was doing was wrong and bad and everything was blown out of proportion.
Qwerty, yeah, he’s 25. He lives with his girl friend and spends most of his time with her family (can’t blame him at all for that, nothing goes on, on this side) at birthdays and Christmas etc. I just think he hasn’t thought about it enough to want to see the evidence for himself.

Friends has always been slated by the JW's.
I remember a while ago I was watching it when my mum and dad got home from the KH and and told me to turn it off. Yeah, living in their house but at 22 I think it's a bit much. First I laughed, then I got pissed off cos their WTS brainwashed minds are do rediculas to me.
They were SO over the top.

I haven’t had chance to talk about it to him but I will be printing some facts about this society to give him next week and decide for himself.

He's just an ignorant old git, he always has been. He's your perfect WTS follower, has no facts at all to back anything he says up. He just blurts out WTS crap on impulse and really expects you to believe such made up 'on a whim' rubbish.
Anyway, he says it's all my fault and feels he can defend the society when he physically abused his children and mentally abused his wife. The thing is I could hear them both talking and agreeing in such a compfortable manner when I was in the hall. I think my mother forgets everything about the way he treated us and the WTS.
